Covid outbreak at Pembroke Regional Hospital

The following media release was received Dec.31, 2021:

Today, the Pembroke Regional Hospital, in collaboration with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on its second floor Medical Unit.

Currently, there are three positive COVID-19 cases associated with the outbreak among the patient population and there is a possibility that at least one positive staff case may be linked.

The hospital’s Occupational Health and Infection Prevention and Control teams are currently working with the Health Unit to implement a surveillance testing for all remaining patients and staff on the unit.

In addition, as a result of the outbreak, all visitors and essential caregivers / care partners are restricted from 2nd Medical except under exceptional circumstances such as end-of-life situations. In those instances which would be approved on case-by-case basis, anyone coming onto the unit would have to be fully vaccinated and wear all appropriate PPE, including a mask for the full duration of their stay.

“The health and safety of patients, staff, physicians, and our community remains our top priority and we are working closely with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit to ensure containment of this outbreak and minimize the risk to any other patients or staff on the unit,” said PRH President and CEO Pierre Noel.

As the outbreak is contained to one unit in the hospital, Mr. Noel said there is no risk to those attending appointments or requiring services in other parts of the hospital.

He did, however, remind those coming to the hospital to ensure that they comply with all COVID-19 safety measures, including wearing a mask the entire duration of their stay, and to accurately answer screening questions prior to entering the facility.
