In a ruling today a three-judge panel of the Divisional Court dismissed the appeal of BLR Councillor Andrea Budarick, who has now been officially removed from her Council seat. A ruling from the Divisional Court in December had prohibited BLR Council from filling the seat until the appeal could be heard. As a result of this ruling, BLR may begin the process of filling the vacant seat. Above: Andrea Budarick. Photo supplied
Budarick was contacted by The Current shortly afterward and said, “While I am certainly disappointed by the ruling today, in looking back on my tenure with this Council I am happy to say that at all times the choices I made, the questions I asked and [my] attempts to find out information were based in my deeply felt desire to act as a representative for the people who elected me.”
When asked about her son being fined by the Fire Department in 2019, Budarick — who now feels able to speak freely on the matter for the first time – stated, “No one was more shocked at the conduct of the Fire Department and Council when Junior’s [her son] ticket was reduced than me!”
She said, “I am truly thankful and heartened by the outpouring of support I have received from members of the public throughout this process.”
A fuller report will be published at a later date.
