Heritage: 1960 McPhail trophy winners St. Joseph’s High School Barry’s Bay

This is actually a newspaper clipping from the Barry’s Bay Review.  It’s a high school hockey team in 1960 representing St. Joseph’s High School which was located where today’s Beer Store is.  Next door was the arena (today’s Valu-Mart) and the picture does a good job of displaying the interior of the rink.  The article doesn’t give all the first names of the players but I can provide them.  Front row: Tommy Wojick, Jerome Golka, Kenny Recoskie, Bobby Crawford, Weldon Coulas, Billy Mackin, Ziggy Mintha.  Back row: Ron Mintha, Kevin Coyne, Richard Shalla, Ray Zelney, Michael Ritza, Roy Kulas, Sidney Coulas, Mervin Yandernoll.

Wonderful photo! To see it now in my elder years brings a happy tear.
I remember all these great guys and was in love with some of them back in the day!
    Beautiful memories.

I would like to make a correction. Carman Palubiski got in touch with me because he noticed a mistake in the newspaper’s listing of names. The newspaper article says that W. Coulas is in the front row, and S. Coulas is in the back row. However, looking at the picture, I have to agree with Carman that it’s the opposite of that. Weldon is actually in the back row while his brother Sydney is in the front row.
