Sudden death of child in Bancroft under investigation

The Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the sudden death of a 23-month-old child.  

On June 23, 2022, at about 3:45 p.m., officers were called to a parking lot on Monck Road for a child that was located with no vital signs. The child was transported to the hospital by ambulance and shortly after pronounced deceased. An investigation was commenced by the OPP Bancroft Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). The OPP investigation, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, is continuing.

A post mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time.
