MV residents charged with Impaired Driving

Police have laid impaired charges on two individuals after investigating two separate incidents.

On August 10, 2022, just before 3:30 p.m., the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a passenger car on Paugh Lake Road, in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

As part of the investigation the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Spencer LARGE of Madawaska Valley Township was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle; and,
  • Operating a motor vehicle while having over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

The accused was released on conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court on September 14, 2022, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The accused’s driver’s licence was seized and suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle towed and impounded.

On August 21, 2022, just after 2:00 p.m., police responded to a traffic complaint involving a vehicle being operated in an unsafe manner, on Combermere Road, in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

Police located the vehicle a short time later and conducted a traffic stop. As part of the investigation, the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, 38-year-old Bartosz STOJKOWSKI of Madawaska Valley Township was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle; and,
  • Operating a motor vehicle while having over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

The accused was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on October 12, 2022, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The accused’s driver’s licence was seized and suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle towed and impounded.

OPP investigating mischief to election signs

Killaloe OPP is investigating a mischief to property incident involving municipal election signs.

On August 20, 2022, shortly before 8:30 a.m., police responded to a mischief call involving damage to municipal election signs located on Lakeshore Drive and Mask Island Drive, in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

Criminal charges follow domestic incident

The Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one individual from Madawaska Valley in relation to a domestic call for service.

On August 15, 2022, members of the Killaloe Detachment responded to a domestic call, which occurred at a residence in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a 64-year-old from Madawaska Valley Township with the Criminal Code (CC) offence of domestic mischief.

The accused was released on conditions and will appear in court on September 14, 2022, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Valley drivers charged as Killaloe OPP investigate collisions

The Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), recently responded to several collisions.

On August 8, 2022, shortly after 4:00 p.m., members responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a passenger car on 60 Highway, near McNee Drive, in the Township of North Algona Wilberforce.

Both vehicles were traveling westbound on 60 Highway. The 21-year-old driver of the passenger car from Barry’s Bay struck the rear of the SUV causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. The 32-year-old driver of the SUV from Killaloe was transported to hospital by the Renfrew County Ambulance with nonlife threatening injuries. The driver of the passenger car was uninjured.

As a result of police investigation, the 21-year-old driver of the passenger car from Killaloe has been charged with careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and was issued a Provincial Offences Act notice. Both vehicles sustained major damages and were towed.

On August 13, 2022, shortly after 9:30 a.m., police responded to a single vehicle collision involving a passenger car on Rockingham Road, near Dovetail Road in the Township of Madawaska Valley. The 22-year-old driver from Madawaska Valley Township suffered a loss of control and left the roadway.

As a result of police investigation, the driver was charged with careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic act, and issued a Provincial Offences Act notice. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was towed.

On August 21, 2022, shortly after 1: 30 p.m., police responded to a single vehicle collision involving a passenger car on Church Street, near Mountain View Road in the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards. The 32-year-old driver from Killaloe, suffered a loss of control and left the roadway. The driver sustained nonlife threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by the Renfrew County Ambulance.

As a result of police investigation, the driver was charged with careless driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and issued a Provincial Offences Act notice. The vehicle was towed.

Drivers should make a commitment to adopt safe, defensive driving behaviours and always drive within the law. The public in general can help by adopting an intolerance of poor driving behaviours, recognizing the serious risk theypose to road users and engage in conversations about safe driving with their families,neighbours and other people in their communities.
