Extreme cold – are you prepared?

Renfrew County and District Health Unit has circulated tips to reduce health risks and stay safe if you must be outdoors during this week’s deep freeze:

  • Dress in warm layers with a wind resistant outer layer.
  • Cover exposed skin when outdoors. Use a scarf to cover and protect your face and nose.
  • Keep moving, including your hands and feet, to keep your blood flowing.
  • Be aware of how your medical conditions or medications may increase your risk.
  • Listen to the weather forecast, plan ahead, and modify your plans to reduce your risk.
  • Keep an emergency car kit in your vehicle when travelling.
  • Be aware of signs and symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia. 

CHCR pancake breakfast

Killaloe’s community radio station is hosting a pancake breakfast this Sunday, Feb.5 from 9am to 1pm  at the Lions Hall, 18 Lake St, Killaloe. The cost is $10 for CHCR Members, $12 for non-members, and children under 12 FREE. If you are interested in supporting community radio, membership fees are $20 per individual and $30 per family. Madawaska Valley Township Development Charges

Are you still wondering about MV Township’s study on Development Charges? Luke Desjardins, the Township Planner, will be available in the Council Chambers at 85 Bay Street, Barry’s Bay, to review the background study or to answer any questions between 12 pm and 5 pm on Thursday, Feb.9 (no appointment needed). This is your final opportunity prior to the Public Meeting which is scheduled for 6 pm that day.

Try something new at Hastings Highlands Public Library

Introductory Interest Sessions with Eleanor run weekly on Wednesday mornings until Mar.8 at Hastings Highlands Public Library, 33011 Hwy.62, Maynooth. Explore topics like Nutrition, Meditation, Weightlifting for Physical Fitness, Journaling, Energy Modalities. No experience necessary, cost is by donation.
