Here’s a quick catch-up of some Valley events this weekend and beyond.

Fireworks postponed

The Total Fire Ban imposed by the Province means that the annual fireworks display run by MV Fire Department staff and volunteers has been postponed. Once the Ban is lifted, the municipality will post a new date for the fireworks.

Rockingham Farmstand

Looking for a good reason to take a spin through the Valley this Canada Day morning? The Farmstand at Seed and Stone Farmstead, 809 Rockingham Road, is open today from 10am to noon. They will be by the pond with plenty of wood-fired, sourdough baked goods (including some gluten free options), garden produce, hot coffee, maple syrup, soap, and Hot Breakfast Sandwiches.

Barry’s Bay Legion

Today between 11am and 2pm, the Royal Canadian Legion Barry’s Bay Branch 406 is hosting a Canada Day for all ages at 250 John Street. Enjoy a magic show, balloon clown, outdoor games, BarBQ and music from Cori Coulas at 2pm.

Wilno Heritage Park

Today from 11am to 3pm all members of the family can enjoy live music, family scavenger hunt, tractor rides, play areas, and more.

Barry’s Bay Railway Station

Today between 11am and 2pm, Station Keepers MV will feature new historical vignettes and biographies of early residents. As of now, the Visitor Information Centre in the old train station at Opeongo Square is open seven days a week untl September.

Summer Programming at MV Public Library

Now that all the children have begun their holidays, Madawaska Valley Public Library wants you to remember that the fun starts on July 4 at 10:30am with Tuesday Morning Story Time at Zurakowski Park in Barry’s Bay. This free event is suitable for all ages. Watch for other events provided by MV Public Library in The Current and listed on MVPL’s posters.

Used Book Sale: Looking for a good book? As well as having access to innumerable borrowing materials from MV Public Library, remember that you can always hunt through their Used Book Sale offerings downstairs at the Library. And everything you buy helps keep the Library operating – moneys raised from the sale of used books is actually MVPL’s biggest fund raising event – and it continues all year long.

Early Bird Seating Offer from Stone Fence Theatre

Take note theatre lovers looking to plan for this summer season. Conspiracy Conniptions, the latest Stone Fence Theatre musical, opens July 19 for 14 shows at the Rankin Culture and Community Centre. There will be ten summer performances on Wednesday and Thursday nights and four in September on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets and info are online at www.stonefence.ca or by phone at 613-401-1497 or, toll-free, 1-866-310-1004. Those ordering before July 5 get preferential Early Bird seating.

Garden Tour tickets available now

Whether you’re looking for backyard inspiration, or you just enjoy seeing the fruits (and flowers) of local gardeners’ labours, it’s time to get your tickets for the Madawaska Valley Gardening Club’s annual Garden Tour in Killaloe on Sunday, July 9 from 10am to 4pm. You can get your $5 tickets at ly 9, from 10 am to 4 pm. Tickets are now sold for $5 at Gift it Grey in Barry’s Bay, Country Store in Combermere, and Grandma’s Pantry in Killaloe.
