Wild Women exhibition in Bancroft
Wild Women Painters of the Wilderness Linda Sorensen, Kathy Haycock and Joyce Burkholder show their work throughout the month of August at the Annex Gallery at Bancroft’s Place for the Arts, 23 Bridge Street. The opening reception takes place on Saturday, Aug.5 between 11am and 4pm. Drop in to meet the artists and see their latest paintings. CO Blitz is back
Combermere’s annual summer celebration takes place this Sunday, Aug.6 from 12pm to 5pm at the Combermere Community Centre, 1095 Farmer Road. Gates open at 11:30am and you’ll want to be there early to sign up for the Horseshoes Tournament (entry $10). Other fun and free stuff on offer include a Classic Car show, live music during the day from Tom & Brie, The Yo-Yo Mamas and Andy Mayenburg. Kids can enjoy a pool and jumbo water slides, tattoos for kids, Mr. Dimples Balloons, plus water fun and giveaways from MV Fire Department. Refreshments include a barbecue, beer garden, cotton candy, snowcones. The day wraps up with a (licensed) Saturday Night Outdoor Dance featuring local band Sidewinder. Gates for the dance open at 8:30pm, $10 per person entry fee. Datsa Tasty Street Eats provides catering. This evening event is cash only, unrestricted at the door but proof of age required.
Rockingham Church celebration features talk on CFS Foymount
The Friends of Rockingham Church will host the 21st Anniversary Celebration of the restoration of the Rockingham Church on Sunday, Aug.13 at 2pm. This year’s featured speaker is Paul Ozorak, author of Abandoned Military Installations of Canada, who will discuss the history of Canadian Forces Station Foymount (CFS Foymount). The hilltop site was formerly a military radar station opened in 1952 as part of the Pinetree Line of NORAD radar stations. The Rockingham Church (the former St. Leonard’s) is located at 513 Rockingham Road, Rockingham. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Yo-Yo Mamas. Grandmothers feed the children at the Killaloe Craft Fair
This is the annual request for members of the community to contribute healthy snacks for the Children’s Feast at the Killaloe Fair on August12. This lovely event happens in the heat of the afternoon. After singing a Blessing in a shady circle, they are passed nourishment by volunteers while a story teller holds their attention.
Please contribute finger food that is low in sugars and high in energy providing nutrients. Some ideas are cheese, dried or fresh in fruit, whole grain crackers, olives , cooked sausage or tofu, boiled eggs, nuts, seeds, trail mix etc. Please refrain from bringing store bought cookies or cakes or candies.
Items for the Children’s Feast may be delivered to the fairgrounds by 1pm … or a pick up may be arranged with Tammy … Call 613-717-5420. There will be a shade tent and coolers to hold the contributions until snack time. Many thanks for your offerings.
