OPP investigate second suspected drowning death in Madawaska Valley

On August 2, 2023, just before 5:00 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an ambulance assist call. An unresponsive individual was located in shallow water at Wadsworth Lake on Hopefield Road, in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

CPR lifesaving measures were performed on the individual by community members, police and paramedics at the scene prior to transport to the hospital. Despite lifesaving measures a 40-year-old from Nigeria was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The Office of the Chief Coroner has been engaged, and a postmortem has been ordered. The death has been ruled as non-suspicious at this time.
