On Aug.8 The Current published a Killaloe OPP Bulletin stating that a 40-year-old man from Nigeria had drowned in Wadsworth Lake. Our report prompted a comment from a nurse at Valley Manor Long Term Care in Barry’s Bay who indicated the man had worked as a PSW there for the past two years. She wrote, “He was a husband and father of two young children. He was loved by the Residents because of his warm heart and caring ways. He made many friends and will be truly missed.” Above: Deceased with his family. Photo: GoFundMe
Members of the Valley Manor community have started a GoFundMe campaign to raise enough money to either send his body home or to cover the cost of a burial here, with any excess funds to go directly to his family in Nigeria. At date of publication the fund stands at $4,315 approximately one-fifth of the target amount. Click HERE to open the GoFundMe link.
Trisha Deslaurier, CEO of Valley Manor Inc. has issued the following statement on behalf of the Manor:
This particular employee had worked with us since the beginning of the pandemic. He was a family man. He was a father, husband, son and loyal friend. I did not have an opportunity to work closely with him, however after reading all of the wishes and stories on our “in house Memorial Wall” and listening to the many kind words from the staff , residents and friends, I can state that he was truly “one of a kind.” A true gem who left such an impression on the residents and team here at Valley Manor. I personally wish his family sincere condolences, in addition to condolences to our residents and staff who all loved him and are feeling his loss every day here at the Manor.
