Enjoy the white stuff this winter at Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club

With the imminent arrival of winter comes the opportunity for fresh air and exercise in the great, white outdoors and Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club offers both for all ages and abilities. Opeongo Nordic is a non-profit, volunteer-operated cross country ski club offering groomed classic and skate ski trails over rolling wilderness terrain.  Photo: Facebook / Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club

Season memberships are available from $87 (individual), but if you prefer to pay as you go, non-members can purchase day use passes (single or books of five). Registration is now open for the Opeongo Gliders Youth program so your kids can learn with certified instructors in a safe and fun environment. Eight sessions are offered on Saturday mornings starting Dec.2(depending on snow conditions) for Jack Rabbits (ages 6-9) and Track Attack (ages 9-12).

You can find more information about the Club, sign up as a Member, or register for Opeongo Gliders Youth via the Club website: Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club – Cross country skiing in Brudenell, Ontario (opeongonordic.com)

Trail clearing dates

Opeongo Nordic is managed entirely by volunteers and they need your help. Trail clearing already began last weekend, but everyone is welcome to help for as little as an hour or for a full day on either Saturday, Dec.2 or Dec.9. Please meet at 10 am at Diane’s Yurt at the ski club’s parking lot. Please be on time! Note that there are no signs up yet, so it is difficult to find your way around without directions. Helpers are asked to bring gloves, eye protection, ear protection, water, snacks plus handsaws, pruners and/or loppers.

Opeongo Nordic is located in Brudenell, Ontario at 109 Nordic Lane. Opeongo Nordic is close to the Madawaska Valley (Barry’s Bay, Combermere and Wilno) as well as Killaloe, Foymount, Eganville and Round Lake. Specific directions and trail maps available on the Club’s website.

Thanks for this article. Most of the trail signs are now up (as of 30-Nov-2023) so it should be easier to find your way around the trails for trail clearing on Saturday. I hope to see you there!
