OPP investigate mischief in South Algonquin Township

Killaloe OPP is currently investigating damaged and destroyed township property.

On July 4, 2024, shortly after 8:30 a.m., police responded to a mischief in the area of 60 Highway and Madawaska Street in the Township of South Algonquin.

Flower baskets located along the bridge were thrown into the water.

Police are asking anyone with information surrounding this crime to contact the Killaloe OPP Detachment at 613-757-2600 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.valleytips.ca. You could receive a cash reward of up to $2000.

Police seek information about damaged signs

Police are investigating damaged post and signage in Madawaska Valley.

On July 2, 2024, shortly after 3:00 p.m., police received information about the damaged post and signage located on Chanonhouse Road, commonly used for cottages.

Canada Day traffic campaign results

If you were out on roads and trails during the Canada Day weekend you may have seen an increase in police presence. Police ramped up enforcement and education on our roads and trails the week prior to Canada Day and the long weekend.

During the Canada Day traffic campaign which ran from June 21 – July 1, police targeted aggressive drivers, impaired drivers, seatbelt usage and inattentive drivers. Speeding and other forms of aggressive driving are dangerous and leading causal factors in fatalities on OPP-patrolled roadways.

The Killaloe OPP report the following charges were laid during the campaign:

  • 22 speeding charges;
  • 1 stunt driving charge;
  • 1 seatbelt charge;
  • 2 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges; and,
  • 11 RIDE checks.

The OPP endeavours to positively influence driver behaviour through high visibility, education, and target enforcement in an effort to save lives. Please drive safely.
