Local Library events are everywhere in our region this week, and most of them are free!

Bonnechere Union Public Library

Monday, July 29 is the final evening of the 2024 Bonnechere Authors Festival in Eganville. Award-winning Canadian actor, film and screenplay writer, and author Robert Bockstael will discuss his first novel Willow’s Run, a mystery with humour, intrigue, and quirky characters in a small town where Willow hides out. The event will be held at the Eagle’s Nest above Eganville Arena. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for homemade desserts and conversation; Author’s Talk at 7pm. Tickets $20 at door. Later in the week you can visit the huge Annual Book Sale in Eganville: Friday, Aug.2 – Saturday, Aug.3 9:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. at the Old Firehall, 165 John Street, Eganville. Very large collection of children’s books this year! Books are conveniently sorted; sold “by donation” or “fill a bag for $20.” All proceeds to the Bonnechere Union Public Library.


South Algonquin Public Library

Tuesday, July 30 at 7pm, the South Algonquin Public Library sponsors a free conservation through education event called Sciensational Sssnakes. You can learn all about reptiles in an educational presentation with a focus on native Ontario species. Following the presentation there will be an opportunity to touch and hold some of the animals. This week from Madawaska Valley Public Library

Every Tuesday, it’s Story Time in Zurakowski Park, Barry’s Bay at 10:30am. Councillor David Shulist is Guest Reader on July 30th.

Every Thursday, meet a Community Star at 1:30pm in the Library, 19474 Opeongo Line, Barry’s Bay. On August 1st you will get to meet restauranteur Liz Woosey.

MV Library Adult Walking Group continues to meet over the summer. Every second week or so, they plan field trips. So far they have explored the new park at Hoche Farms and the ghost town in Foymount area. More fun field trips are planned, so drop by Fridays at 10am to see where the group is headed next!

Round off the week next Saturday August 3 with Story Walk Zoo with fun activities for kids at the Library 10:30am to 2:30pm. Local author Tasha Rankin has prepared her annual interactive story walk for the Library. This year’s theme is Story Walk Zoo. Youngsters can meet the author herself, plus there will be face painting and games as well as treats and prizes for participants.
