Several upcoming events in the Valley of note:

Friday, Sept.13 The adult walking group convenes at Madawaska Valley Public Library at 1 pm. This is your chance to keep fit and socialize, plus enjoy a hot drink afterwards at the Library.


Saturday, Sept.14 Valley gardeners can take advantage of the Madawaska Valley Gardening Club’s fall Plant Sale at Zurakowski Park from 9 am to 12 pm. MVGC members always offer a multitude of perennials, shrubs, trees and houseplants to enhance your garden at this popular annual event – all at a very good price. Please drop off plants at Zurakowski Park between 8 am and 9 am on Saturday. Proceeds from the Plant Sale go towards the Club’s community beautification and education projects.


Saturday, Sept.14 Celebrate the local arts community in support of Madawaska Valley District School arts program at the final One Tree Open Mic event of the season in the back patio of Madawaska Coffee Co. in Barry’s Bay between 6 pm and 8:30 pm. This family-friendly, inclusive, licensed event is a collaboration between Jennifer Stevenson of Dance Oasis and Madawaska Coffee. Ticket price includes a warming, hearty meal. Sunday, Sept.15 The annual Terry Fox Run takes place this Sunday, starting from Lakeshore Tennis Club in Barry’s Bay between 9 am and 12 pm. You can run individually, or as a member of a team. Your sponsorship and fundraising makes a difference: at time of writing this, more than $13,000 has been raised for the Barry’s Bay Run. For registration and more details please visit: terryfox.org


Tuesday, Sept. 17 Service Canada returns to Madawaska Valley Public Library between 10 am and 2 pm. Call the library to book an appointment (613) 756-2000. Service Canada can assist with your passport application, Canadian Pension Plan, Old Age Security, Employment Insurance, Social Insurance Numbers, Guaranteed Income Supplement.
