The Madawaska Valley Gardening Club has an important message for Valley gardeners. Due to the upcoming provincial election event, the Club’s February General Meeting is postponed to Thurs. March 6th, 7:30 pm at Opeongo Seniors’ Centre. Please spread the word, especially to those who do not have regular access to the internet.
Meeting Topic: Tomatoes: From Seed to Table by Michele & Gregg Parsons, Firefly Meadows Farm, Eganville
Gregg and Michele own Firefly Meadows Farm southwest of Eganville, where they have an organic food garden. They grow a wide array of vegetables, berry bushes, fruit and nut trees, herbs and flowers. They used to sell their produce, but now grow it for self-sufficiency. Their half-acre garden includes a 100-foot row of different varieties of tomatoes. That’s a lot of salsa! Michele and Gregg will share their knowledge of tomato growing and preserving.
Also on Mar.6th there will be a House Plant Exchange during the social time just before the meeting, 7:00-7:30 pm. Just like the Club’s fall Seed Exchange, you can bring what you have and take away what you want. It’s not necessary to bring a plant in order to take a plant. Please ensure they’re healthy, and transport them within a covered container or bag to protect from the cold. You must agree to take back any of your plants not picked up by others.
Seedy Sunday on March 2
This annual event is a favourite of Valley gardeners. As in past years it will be held at Rankin Recreation Centre, 20 Rankin Rink Road, Pembroke on Sunday, March 2 from 10am to 3pm.
