Provincial election candidates meeting tonight

A public all-candidates’ meeting is scheduled for tonight (Feb. 20) beginning at 6:30 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Barry’s Bay. Valley Gazette reporter Rob Fisher will put pre-submitted questions to the candidates. The meeting format does not include taking questions from the floor but VG publisher Mike Lavigne hopes some candidates will linger afterwards to speak to members of the public.

Madawaska Valley Gardening Club meeting postponed

Reminder that MV Gardeners must wait until Mar.6 for the Club’s February meeting at the Opeongo Seniors Centre in Barry’s Bay, as the meeting has been postponed due to the provincial elections. This means that Valley gardeners can attend tonight’s candidates’ meeting at the Barry’s Bay Legion.

Legion Public Speaking competition

Registration begins at 9 am this Saturday, Feb.22, for the annual Public Speaking competition at the Royal Canadian Legion Barry’s Bay Branch 406. All school-aged children are invited to participate. Speeches begin at 10 am by age groups. Primary and Intermediate speeches should be 3 to 5 minutes long; senior speeches to range from 5 to 7 minutes.

Anti-Bullying workshop at Madawaska Valley Public Library

This Saturday, Feb.22 at 1 pm, Madawaska Valley Public Library presents an anti-bullying workshop for parents. Whether your child is the bully or is being bullied, you can learn practical methods to support your child’s interactions with peers. This workshop is led by a retired social worker. It is interactive, so your questions and concerns can be discussed. Please notify the Library if you plan to attend. Drop ins are also welcome. Tel: 613-756-2000

Seedy Sunday

Also in gardening news, the 18th annual Ottawa Valley Seedy Sunday takes place in Rankin on Sunday, March 2nd from 10 am to 3 pm. Speakers, stalls, lunches and more.
