Dear Editor,
As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the Hasanville Community would like to extend warm greetings to the residents of Barry’s Bay and surrounding areas.
For over 30 years, our community has been proud to call the Madawaska Valley home. We have been blessed to be a part of this vibrant and welcoming community, and we are grateful for the friendships, partnerships, and memories we have shared with our neighbours.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a time of spiritual reflection, fasting, and community bonding for Muslims worldwide. It commemorates the revelation of the Quran, the holy book of Islam, to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over 1,400 years ago.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food and drink to develop self-control, empathy, and compassion. This practice, known as “sawm,” is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is meant to bring believers closer to their faith and their community.
As we prepare to observe Ramadan, we reflect on the values of gratitude, generosity, and kindness that are at the heart of this blessed month. We strive to be more mindful of our actions, more compassionate towards others, and more thankful for the blessings in our lives.
We wish to express our appreciation for the support and understanding of our community and look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with our friends and neighbors in Barry’s Bay.
Wishing you all a blessed Ramadan!
Sincerely,
Hasanville Community
Editor’s Note: This year, Ramadan began at sundown on Friday, 28th February and is celebrated for 30 days until sundown on Saturday, 29th March.
