The Township of Madawaska Valley announced today that Mayor Mark Willmer has died. The official notice from the municipality reads as follows:
It is with profound sadness that the Township of Madawaska Valley announces the passing of Mayor Mark Willmer.
Mayor Willmer had served as mayor since 2022, after being a member of our Council from 2018 to 2022, and had dedicated his life to public service. He was a strong advocate for our community, representing the Township as a member of the County of Renfrew’s County Council and serving on multiple committees over the course of his tenure as mayor.
Prior to living and working in the Township, Mayor Willmer lived in Arnprior and Ottawa, where he worked for decades in municipal government and eventually served as a Councillor for the Town of Arnprior before settling in Barry’s Bay.
Council, staff, and the entire community will mourn the loss of Mark and his dedication to his community. In honour of Mark, flags around the Township will be lowered to half mast.
Our thoughts are with his partner Janet, his children and grandchildren, and extended family and friends at this time.
