Operation Impact report

The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently took part in a national four-day traffic safety initiative dubbed Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving long weekend. Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers conducted focused patrols from October 10 to October 13 with special attention being paid to the “Big 4” which are the four main causal factors in motor vehicle collision deaths on OPP patrolled roadways. The “Big 4” factors are distracted driving, speeding/aggressive driving, impaired driving and lack of occupant restraint.

Over the course of the traffic safety initiative Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers laid several charges including 26 speeding charges, one seatbelt charge, two distracted driving charges and six charges under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA). Three impaired driving charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC). During the weekend campaign officers also responded to over 295 calls for service.

The OPP reminds drivers that while the campaign is over, officers are committed to traffic safety enforcement and education year-round.
