MV Food Bank thanks the Valley

The Madawaska Valley has once again shown that it is very much a caring community. The MV Food Bank’s annual fundraiser, the MooseFM Radiothon hosted last Friday at Yuill’s Independent and Metro, exceeded its goal this year. “The Radiothon is our major fundraiser each year,” said Paul Thompson of the MV Food Bank. “With the need for help in our area remaining stubbornly high, we set a pretty ambitious goal of $20,000.” The community responded to make this the most successful Radiothon ever with $25,000 raised. Valley individuals and organizations dropped by the Radiothon with food and financial donations, sending in cheques, and donating online. As just one example, the Palmer Rapids Lions presented a $500 cheque to the Food Bank. “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our community.  This means we are on track to be able to provide the help to our neighbours in need over the coming year,” said Thompson. He explained that the Radiothon is part of the Food Bank’s year-end fundraising campaign. This year’s campaign goal is $45,000. When the Radiothon began at 10am on Dec.5th, the campaign balance stood at $8,000. The $25,000 from the Radiothon means that, with $33,000 already raised, the Food Bank is optimistic about reaching its total goal of $45,000.

Missed the Radiothon? You can still donate to the Food Bank

MV Food Bank continues to accept donations in the hope of covering that $12,000 shortfall by the end of the year. There’s still time to donate by e-transfer at mvfoodbank@gmail.com
