On Sunday, Dec.28 the Township of Madawaska Valley released the following statement:
It is with great sadness that the Township of Madawaska Valley announces the passing of Councillor Ernie Peplinski on Saturday December 27.
Councillor Peplinski had served on this Council since April, having filled the seat vacated by Joseph Olsheskie’s resignation. Previously, Ernie served the Township as Councillor from 2014 – 2022, as well as with Radcliffe Township prior to amalgamation.
Ernie brought a wealth of life experience and knowledge to the Council table and will be greatly missed. Outside of the Council Chambers, Ernie will be remembered for his passion for music and his community. Our thoughts are with his wife, children, grandchild, and family and friends in this difficult time.
The Current will publish further details regarding arrangements for memorials of the late Councillor as they become available.

Editor’s note: The Heubner Funeral Home obituary states that “As per Ernie’s wishes he will be cremated and there will be a mass and celebration of life gathering at a later date.”
