Red Dress Day

Today is Red Dress Day – the time to shine a spotlight on the violence perpetrated on disproportionate numbers of girls, women and two-spirit individuals. This national day was first observed in 2019, and its official title is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ (MMIWG2S). You can signify your support by honouring the victims and their families at a ceremony, march or public gathering in your community or by wearing red yourself or displaying red dresses in public spaces. For example, tonight you can attend the 4th Annual Red Dress Day Walk hosted by Steps for Change in Renfrew County from 6pm to 7:30 pm. Please meet at the Petawawa Civic Kin Hut.
