Last Call for MV Public Library Trivia Night
The Library’s Trivia Night takes place this coming Friday, May 29 in the upstairs lounge at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre. Doors open at 6:30pm, trivia begins 7pm. Municipal elections
The next municipal election takes place on Monday, October 26, 2026. In Madawaska Valley, one mayor and four councillors are elected. The unofficial candidates’ list remains unchanged since nominations opened on May 1:
- Mayor: Mary Blank
- Councillor: David Shulist
Prospective candidates have until 2pm on Friday, August 21 to declare, change or withdraw their nomination.
Countdown Public Art project returns to Valley
ReDefine Arts in partnership with Community Resource Centre and Ottawa Valley Community Arts has announced that the next three-year cycle of the Countdown Public Art project launches in June. The programming includes three streams: art workshops, outdoor concerts, and a mobile campaign travelling by foot, bike, paddle, and car.
Countdown began in 2016 in the Ottawa Valley and has evolved into a community-powered public art initiative focused on creative collection-action to end gender-based violence and to foster safer communities. During the past ten years, more than 5,000 participants at 125 community arts workshops and events have created 13 large-scale and more than 300 small pebble mosaic artworks in Ontario’s accessible public spaces.
Madawaska Valley Gardening Club plant sale success
MV Gardening Club has announced more than $1,300 was raised at their recent annual Plant Sale in Combermere. The Club acknowledges the generosity of those who worked hard growing the vegetable and annual seedlings, digging the perennials, bagging compost, and coming to help at the sale. Thank you to all who came to buy the treasures, and a special thank-you to BEI for generously donating very popular mushroom compost again. Two yards of compost were quickly sold out.
World Environment Day celebration
Council of Canadians Kitchissippi-Ottawa Valley invites you to a free Environment Day Festival to celebrate World Environment Day and the launch of their “Protecting Our Hopes” community-led fabric art for all ages and skills as they mark KOV chapter’s 5th anniversary. Drop-in between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, June 6 at Stewart Hall, Trinity-St.Andrew’s United Church, 291 Plaunt Street South, Renfrew.
