Attempted murder charges follow Bancroft assault incident

On August 10, 2021 shortly after 9:30 p.m. members from the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of an assault at Woodview Lane in the Town of Bancroft.

OPP officers attended the area and located three injured adults. Two of the injured persons were transported to hospital by ambulance. One of the adults were released from hospital the second adult remains in hospital for further medical treatment.

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested 36 year old Maurice MARTIN of Bancroft, Ontario. The accused has been charged with the criminal offences of:

  • Attempt to commit murder – two counts
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with probation

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville, Ontario on August 19, 2021 in relation to the criminal charges.
