Earlier this week Madawaska Valley Township held its annual Service Awards meeting at the municipal Council Chambers. While not all recipients were on hand to receive their awards, and indeed only three members of Council (Mayor David Shulist with Councillors Mary Blank and Shelley Maika) were there with CAO Suzanne Klatt and Fire Chief Corwin Quade. But it was evident from the comments and enthusiastic applause in the room that these award winners are all greatly appreciated for their service. The awards honoured Volunteer Firefighters as well as members of staff and, as Mayor Shulist pointed out, recognized them for an astounding 280 years of service to Valley residents.
