The tables were laden with a variety of delicious dishes as more than sixty people brought contributions of food to the Madawaska Valley Horticultural Society’s annual potluck dinner on November 15 at the Opeongo Seniors Centre in Barry’s Bay. As a special feature of the meeting, society Past President Sharon Mahussier presented Lifetime Membership pins to Don and Ann Isbister and to Cathie and Bob Corrigan. (from left, above) Both couples have dedicated many volunteer hours and their horticultural skills to the benefit of the Valley through the years.
Later in the evening the serving dishes were replaced by beautiful seasonal arrangements as demonstrator Kevin Neiman (above right) showed Society members how to create them.
These arrangements were soon carried home by the lucky winners of the raffle. (From above left: Colina Taylor sells raffle tickets; raffle winners with their prizes: Alexa Fretz, Evey Yantha, Mary Lyn Beatty, Mary Peterson, Rose Yantha.
But the big winner of the evening was the Madawaska Valley Food Bank which received the raffle proceeds of $405.00 plus donations of non-perishable food items that Horticultural Society members brought to help Food Bank clients in our community.
The Society also elected its executive for 2019 at the meeting:
- President: Jeneene Brunton
- 1st Vice-President: Eden Guidroz
- 2nd Vice-President: Ritsuko Honda
There are still two vacancies as the Society needs one director and a secretary. With nine other directors, the work is shared by many people. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact any member of the executive for information. The AGM will take place at the next meeting on January 17, 2019.
