Tree of Lights event sparks Christmas campaign

This year’s Tree of Lights celebration held on December 7 in Barry’s Bay is a visible reminder of the annual Christmas Campaign run by St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation (SFVH) to help provide equipment for St. Francis Memorial Hospital. The goal of the campaign is about Giving the Gift of a Life Line with proceeds to help the Hospital purchase 15 new IV Pumps for patient care. Each state-of-the-art IV machine costs $5,000 but it is truly a life line for hospital patients.

The highlight of the evening was the Tree Lighting by Angels representing the area’s schools. This year’s Angels (Shown above from left) were:

  • Isabella Rogers-Avery – Whitney Public School
  • Torin Meissner – Palmer Rapids Public School
  • Kortney Dupuis – St. John Bosco School, Barry’s Bay
  • Mason Kotzma – St. Andrew’s School, Killaloe
  • Logan Cowan – Killaloe Public School, Killaloe
  • Aubrey Phanenhour – George Vanier School, Combermere
  • Lyla Burgess – Sherwood Public School, Barry’s Bay
  • Lily Etmanski – St. Martin of Tours, Whitney

There was great excitement as the angels proceeded downstairs (above) in the Railway Station to be introduced outside for the Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The Tree Lighting ceremony featured musical entertainment by sisters Solana and Luna Nordholt whose beautiful harmonies added warmth to the event.

The Tree of Lights Christmas Campaign is a mail campaign that continues throughout December so if you missed the Tree of Lights event, you still have time to participate. SFVH Foundation Executive Director Toni Lavigne-Conway said,

This Campaign itself is a special one because people purchase bulbs to help light the Tree in Memory, Honour or Appreciation of someone special. It is very meaningful and personal to all who participate. The person’s name is written on one of our bulb cards and is hung on the Christmas tree at the hospital. We have heard from so many people how wonderful they feel to remember someone they love at this time of the year and at the same time help out their hospital. In that way, it really is the gift that gives twice!

Lavigne-Conway suggests donors drop by the Foundation office at the hospital or call 613.756.3045 ext. 217 for details of how to donate. Donors can also give securely online at www.sfvhfoundation.com
