OPP Killaloe Detachment report holiday period incidents

During the weeks of December 17, 2018 to January 1, 2019 there were 231 calls for service, including the Whitney Detachment.

  • There were twenty-one motor vehicle collisions, fourteen were animal related. The remaining collisions were minor, with no injuries.
  • There were five domestic disputes, with two domestic disputes resulting in criminal charges.

Domestic Charges

On Tuesday December 25, 2018 at approximately 4:00 p.m. members of the Killaloe OPP detachment responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Bonnechere Valley Twp. As a result of police investigation, a 33-year-old male from Bonnechere Valley Twp. was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault, Mischief x 2 and Breach of Probation conditions, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held pending a bail court hearing, Ontario Court of Justice. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Domestic Breach of Conditions Charges

On Saturday December 29, 2018 at approximately 12:22 p.m. Killaloe OPP Constable Matthew Burton and Constable Ryan Szczygiel responded to a domestic call at a residence in Madawaska Valley Twp. As a result of police investigation a 23 yr. old male from Pembroke was arrested and charged with Breach of Probation conditions and Fail to Comply with Recognizance conditions contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held pending a bail court hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Male Arrested on Warrant, Further Criminal Charges Pending

On Wednesday December 26, 2018 at approximately 9:26 a.m. members of the Killaloe OPP detachment, along with the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), observed a male driver in a pickup truck who was known to police to be wanted on outstanding criminal warrants on John Street, Madawaska Valley Twp. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the male failed to stop for police, continuing to operate his motor vehicle west on Highway 60. Police deployed a spike belt on Highway 60, in the area of Spectacle Lake Road, and the male was arrested a short time later. As a result of police investigation, 53-year-old Rudy SAWATZKY of Melancthon Twp. was arrested and further charged with Obstruct Police, Flight from Police and Resist Arrest, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held pending a bail court hearing, Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke.

Sexual Assault Charges

On Thursday December 27, 2018 at approximately 12:10 p.m. Constable Brent Darraugh, and Sgt Yvan Pelletier responded to an assault call at a residence on Highway 60, Madawaska Valley Twp. As a result of police investigation, a 17-year-old male youth from Gatineau was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault and Breach of Probation conditions, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused who cannot be named under Provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act  was held pending a bail court hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke.

Impaired Charges

On Monday December 24, 2018 at approximately 11:03 p.m. Killaloe OPP Constable Glenn Yaraskavitch and Constable Mike Holbrook responded to a single vehicle collision involving a passenger car on Brudenell Road, Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Twp. As a result of police investigation, 29-year-old Mark HUBERS of Brudenell,  Lyndoch and Raglan Twp. was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation and Over 80, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of Wednesday January 30, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Criminal Charges, Cannabis Act

On Wednesday December 19, 2018 at approximately 6:25 p.m. Whitney OPP Constable Brent Darraugh conducted a traffic stop on a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Post Street, South Algonquin Twp. As a result of police investigation, the 22-year-old male driver Austin SCHLECHTER of South Algonquin Twp.  was charged with Cannabis Marijuana Readily Available to Driver, contrary to the Cannabis Control Act, and issued a Provincial Offences Act notice. The driver was further charged with Possess More Than 30 Grams of Cannabis Marijuana in a Public Place, contrary to the Federal Cannabis Act and was issued an Appearance Notice with a court date of Wednesday January 30, 2019 at 9:30 am, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The cannabis was seized.

Collision

On Thursday December 27, 2018 at approximately 10:04 a.m. Whitney OPP Constable Brent Darraugh responded to a single vehicle collision involving a passenger car on Cedar Grove Road, Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Twp. The passenger car lost control and rolled into the ditch. As a result of police investigation, 29-year-old Justin WILSON of Simcoe-Norfolk County was charged with Improper Tires, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant was issued a Provincial Offence Act notice. The vehicle was towed. There were no reported injuries.

Festive RIDE Results, Killaloe OPP Detachment

Festive RIDE which began on November 23, 2018 has now concluded. The Killaloe OPP detachment report 2 drivers charged with impaired related criminal offences, and a total of 146 RIDE checks completed. Although the campaign has concluded, sober driving at all times has not. Please drive responsibly.
