After a five-year search for a suitable expansion target, Greg Kelly Insurance Brokerage Ltd. recently met with success. With effect from the beginning of this year, the Barry’s Bay insurance brokerage which Kelly founded in 2007 has expanded to Eganville. Kelly accomplished this by acquiring the well-established brokerage, J. Stephen McCann Insurance Broker Ltd. Steve McCann represents the third-generation owner of his family’s insurance business which originally started in Eganville in 1913.
Kelly said the acquisition of the Eganville office increases his client base. “It makes for a much stronger brokerage with more markets.” While the clients’ needs in both locations are very similar, the Barry’s Bay office now offers Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) deposits and Kelly said that several staff members are already licensed for GIC sales. Kelly said he can offer his Eganville customers a broader variety of products because he deals with more companies.
Teresa Plotz remains at the Eganville office but the acquisition has meant some staffing changes. General Manager, Ashton Sabatine, now visits both offices on a regular basis. Erin Recoskie works at the Eganville office – a shorter commute from her home in Beachburg. Kelly said McCann will remain available on a consulting basis for the first year.
