Bay Blades host exhibition games

The Barry’s Bay Sledge Hockey Club will host two sledge hockey exhibition games on Saturday March 23 at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre:

  • 3 p.m. Ottawa Sledge Hawks vs. Jr. Barry’s Bay Blades
  • 4 p.m. Ottawa Senators Sledge Team vs. Barry’s Bay Blades

While the Barry’s Bay Blades do not currently have any league teams, all the teams playing in these matches fall under the umbrella of Sledge Hockey of Eastern Ontario (SHEO). Click HERE to check out the SHEO website.

“These games are for fun – a nice way to end the season,” said Anita Jessup, whose son Chadd plays for one of the teams.

The Ottawa Senators Sledge team playing at 4 p.m. is from Ottawa and they play in the SHEO Open Division. The players are ages 11 years and up. They are sponsored by the NHL Sens and wear their logo. Jessup says,

This Sens team … is the competitive  team that my son Chadd plays on in Ottawa. Last year they finished first in provincials. They are one of two teams headed to provincial playoffs again this year (April 7 in Oakville)

The admission charge for Saturday’s games is just $2.00. Jessup says it is more about showcasing this unique sport.

This gives the kids a chance to play and to share this sport with our community. Any proceeds will go directly to the sledge club.
