The above photo shows all that remains of a house on Mountain View Road in the Township of Killaloe Hagarty and Richards (KHR). Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report that at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Sunday May 5, 2019 they responded to a fully engulfed house fire at that location. Fire departments from both KHR and Madawaska Valley attended the blaze.

Police have located the remains of one body at the scene which has yet to be identified. The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office, the Office of the Coroner, the OPP Forensic Identification Services, and the Renfrew County Crime Unit are continuing with the investigation.

Update: Local residents and commenters on social media have identified the deceased as Ambrose Ostroskie (pictured above), who had lived alone at the farm since the death of his sister, Bernadette Ostroskie, in August 2018.
The cause of the fire is deemed to be non-suspicious at this time. The OPP request that anyone with information surrounding this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or the Killaloe OPP Detachment.
