Access Work Service (AWS) invited clients to an ice cream party in appreciation of their work during July and August. The end of summer gathering on September 6 was due to take place on the patio of the Balmoral Hotel but the threat of rain caused AWS to move the event across the street to the Opeongo Senior Centre. AWS Program Coordinator Jane Smith Smith told The Current, “This was an opportunity for AWS to recognize the contribution that the team put in during the busy summer. With the hard work of our employees and the continued support of our employers we had a great summer and look forward to a busy fall. We are Ready, Willing and Able to meet your needs.” She acknowledged their generous supporters for this event:

AWS provides assistance to local households and businesses by connecting clients who have barriers to employment with people who need help. Smith said that many households and businesses require occasional or seasonal help, but that placing clients into a regular work schedule happens less often. She said that workers who are employed on a regular basis feel valued because of their ongoing contribution.
