OPP investigate threats to high school in Barry’s Bay

Editor’s note: Parents of students at the school told The Current they were grateful to have received automated phone calls from the school authorities confirming that the incident had occurred, the OPP were involved, there was no imminent danger and that all appropriate protocols had been followed. Killaloe OPP issued the following statement today:

On Friday September 27, 2019 at approximately 7:50 a.m., the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threats call at Madawaska Valley High School located on John Street, in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

With cooperation and assistance from the RCDSB officials the OPP investigated and it was determined that no threat had been made to staff or student safety. No criminal charges were warranted. While the matter was under investigation the appropriate safety measures were engaged in coordination with police and the school board protocol.

The Ontario Provincial Police take all public safety threats seriously. Police and school officials continue to work together to support students and staff to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
