Province-wide total fire ban starts at midnight

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has announced that it will impose a Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) in all areas of the province, to take effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2020. The map below shows all 37 areas. The Township of Madawaska Valley is in Zone 26.

MV Chief Fire Officer Corwin Quade said that this means no fires whatsoever are permitted, for any reason. Anyone caught disobeying this RFZ ban will be liable for a fine of $615. Conservation Officers, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and Fire Chiefs will issue these tickets under the Provincial Offences Act. Quade had just imposed a Level 1 Fire Ban in MV Township, but received notice of the RFZ from the MNRF this afternoon.

More information including an interactive fire map is available on the province’s website.
