The 2020 Terry Fox Virtual Run “One Day Your Way” in Barry’s Bay is days away, and residents are gearing up to raise money for cancer research by finding a fun and safe version of “Your Way” to participate and help keep Terry Fox’s dream alive in this 40th anniversary year. A recent media advisory states that the “Not Your Usual Terry Fox Run” is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 20 at any time that suits participants in neighbourhoods and parks everywhere in the Madawaska Valley.
Barry’s Bay Terry Fox Run organizer Colette Mantifel told The Current, “Because it is a virtual run, participants can run wherever they choose, as well as whenever works best for them. Most participants will likely get donations online, but if there are participants that are collecting cash/cheque donations, they can contact me at colette_mantifel@hotmail.com and we can arrange a safe, physically distanced drop off.”
The media advisory goes on to say after Terry was forced to stop he said, “Even though I’m not running anymore, people should go ahead and try to do their own thing.” On Sunday September 20th Canadians are invited to do it “Your Way” by choosing a route and location to safely walk, run, bike, hike, skate or wheel.
Today, 40 years later, we are in a year that is challenging us more than we could have ever expected. We have to think outside the box to make the best of our 2020 participation. It can be short or long, fun or intense, alone or inside your bubble. We can’t think of anything that Terry would appreciate more.
