New groups eligible to book vaccination appointments

Renfrew County & District Health Unit (RCDHU) released the following information 9:30 a.m. on Apr.28 2021:

Today, Apr.28, Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) is announcing that booking appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations is expanding to include new groups.

Eligible people who can book an appointment based on availability of vaccine now include:
A) People born between 1957 and 1961 (60 to 64 years of age).
B) Individuals who are pregnant (book under the high-risk health condition category).
C) Child care workers in licensed child care settings (starting April 29).

Please note that all individuals who are pregnant and had previously pre-registered under the “at-risk conditions” category, must re-register under the “high-risk health condition” category to receive a link to book an appointment. Also, partners of pregnant individuals are not eligible to book a vaccination appointment as an essential caregiver unless they meet the Provincial definition. An essential caregiver is a person who provides regular and sustained assistance with personal care and/or daily activities of living such as bathing, feeding, dressing, etc.

Also note that child care workers in licensed child care settings will receive a letter from their employer. This letter must be available at the point of booking and taken to the vaccination appointment.

We ask that residents please be patient as RCDHU currently has limited vaccine availability. As soon as RCDHU receives confirmation of more vaccine arriving from the Provincial government, more appointments will be added to the booking system. Please continue to monitor the website for upcoming availability of appointments.

Residents are being asked to please register online as this is the fastest way. Individuals are encouraged to ask a family member or friend to assist is they are unable to book online themselves. Please book only one appointment per person to ensure that appointments are available to other eligible individuals. If you book an appointment, please keep it. If it is critical to change your appointment, please cancel through the link in the email you received confirming your appointment.

Only if a person is unable to register online, they can call RCDHU at 613-735-9724 or 1-800-267-1097, Ext. 200. Residents are asked to leave one message with their name and phone number, and someone will return their call as soon as possible.

People should contact their primary care provider if they have questions about their eligibility and/or personal health status before they receive the vaccine. Alternatively, those without a primary care provider can contact the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (VTAC) (1-844-727-6404) to consult with a family physician.

For a full list of those who currently eligible to book appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations and all other inquiries regarding COVID-19 and vaccine rollout, residents should visit RCDHU’s website. For details specific to vaccination registration and appointments (i.e., what you need to bring), visit the COVID-19 Vaccination Appointment Checklist.
