Madawaska Valley changes fire risk level, fireworks rules

Madawaska Valley Fire Chief Corwin Quade has informed The Current that the fire ban in the municipality is lifted, with effect from tonight Aug.9. This means that nighttime burning — with a permit — is now allowed. Fires may only be lit from two hours before sunset and must be extinguished by two hours after sunrise. The $10 burn permits may be purchased at the municipal office and MacEwens in Barry’s Bay, and at CO Country Market in Combermere. Campfires continue to be allowed, with a maximum diameter of two feet.

Quade also reminded residents that MV Council recently amended its Noise By-Law to specifically limit the hours when fireworks may be let off in the municipality. Fireworks are allowed from dusk until 11:00 p.m. Setting off fireworks during unauthorized times could result in a $305 ticket.
