Calling all would-be videographers

There’s still time to catch the last Toonie Tuesdays session this Tuesday, Apr.25 at 7 pm at the old Train Station at 19503 Opeongo Line in Barry’s Bay. The Madawaska Valley Public Library in conjunction with the Stationkeepers MV host this series. Barry Conway, a print and broadcast journalist, magazine and book editor, and former professor of journalism, will demonstrate top tips used by professionals composing memoirs or other freelance articles. The session is free, but a $2 ‘toonie’ will be greatly appreciated. All proceeds in support of a new library.


Fund Raiser for Dog Rescue

Opeongo Seniors, 19 Stafford Street, Barry’s Bay are hosting a lunch this Wednesday, April 26 between 11am and 1pm. Chili lunch, tea, coffee, dessert. $10.00 Members and friends, open to the public. The Seniors will also host a Penny Sale Table, where $2.00 will buy you five tickets.


Catch The Ace update

Congratulations to Christine Layman of Pembroke, winner of the Week #28 Catch the Ace draw who won the weekly prize of $1,755. The Ace of Spades is still in play and the estimated weekly prize for Week #29 is $1,800.00! If the Ace of Spades is found, the lucky winner will take home the estimated total prize of $49,900.50! All proceeds support the purchase of essential medical equipment for St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Be sure to buy your ticket in time for this Thursday’s draw.


More fund raisers for local healthcare

  • Stretch it out and help local healthcare! Rhonda Rogers-Martel is hosting a yoga session at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre in Barry’s Bay on Sunday, April, 30 at 6:30 p.m. The Gentle Yoga session is by donation and proceeds will support the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation for local healthcare needs.
  • Annual Trivia Night hosted by the Murchison and Lyell Recreation Committee of the Township of South Algonquin will take place on Monday May 1, 2023 at 7 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation to help support equipment purchases and services at Valley Manor, MV Hospice Palliative Care & St. Francis Memorial Hospital. To register your team (maximum of 6 people), please contact Brendia Drew at 613-637-2029.
  • Starting NEXT Monday! Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Week will take place this year from May 1 to 7, 2023. The St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation (SFVH) is once again the lucky recipient of the proceeds of Smile Cookies sold at the Barry’s Bay location. Cookies will be sold at a new price of $1.50 with 100% of proceeds going toward local healthcare needs. SVFH thanks Barry’s Bay Tim Hortons Owners Jason and Olena Armstrong and staff for once again making us smile!
