More than 2X speed limit results in charge
The Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding motorists that aggressive driving is dangerous and is a leading factor in fatal motor vehicle collisions on OPP patrolled roads.
On August 4, 2024, just before 9:30 a.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment conducted a traffic stop for speed on a passenger car on 60 Highway, in the Township of Madawaska Valley.
The 54-year-old driver from Toronto was found to be travelling at 167 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. As a result of police investigation, the driver was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Performing a Stunt – Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant was issued a summons to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The vehicle was towed and impounded for fourteen days. The driver’s licence was seized and suspended for thirty days.

Investigation of single vehicle collision on Hwy.60 near Spectacle Lake Road
Two people were sent to hospital in a recent collision.
On August 2, 2024, just before 11: 00 a.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and paramedics responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a Renfrew County ambulance on 60 Highway near Spectacle Lake Road, in the Township of South Algonquin.
Police investigation has revealed the driver was proceeding eastbound on 60 Highway and suffered a loss of control resulting in the vehicle striking a hydro pole. The 57-year-old driver from Golden Lake and the 56-year-old passenger from Renfrew suffered nonlife threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.
The driver has been charged with change lane not in safety, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and issued a Provincial Offences Act notice. The ambulance was towed. Fatal collision on Hwy.28 remains under investigation
The Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues investigating a fatal collision.
On August 03, 2024, shortly after 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a collision involving three motorcycles and a vehicle on Highway 28, near Paudash School Road. Two drivers were pronounced dead.
The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, involving officers from the Bancroft Detachment, as well as the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Collision Reconstructionist.

Long Weekend Traffic Campaign results in charges
The Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently participated in the Civic Day long weekend traffic safety campaign.
This year the campaign ran from August 2 to August 5, 2024. The province-wide effort focused on Ontario’s Move Over law. This law serves to protect police, other emergency services and tow truck personnel who are parked or stopped on the roadside to carry out their work. Officers also targeted inattentive drivers, aggressive drivers, and impaired drivers.
The Killaloe OPP Detachment reports the following charges laid during the campaign:
· 18 (eighteen) speeding charges Highway Traffic Act;
· 3 (three)seatbelt charges Highway Traffic Act;
· 1 (one) Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charge; and,
· 3 (three) Provincial Offences Act charges.
Officers also laid 4 (four) Criminal Code impaired driving charges.
