Intimate Partner Violence incidents continue to rise

 The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged five people in the last week for intimate partner violence related crimes.

On December 4, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a domestic dispute on Baldwin Street in the Town of Renfrew.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old of Ottawa was charged with:

  • Assault, two counts
  • Mischief
  • Uttering threats- damage property

The accused was released and scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date.

On December 5, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a domestic dispute on Morgan Clouthier Way in the Town of Arnprior.

As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old from Arnprior was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Failure to comply with release order- other than to attend court
  • Resist peace officer
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Assault- spousal
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, two counts

The accused was held for bail.

On December 5, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a domestic dispute on Tom Gavinski Street in the Town of Arnprior.

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old from Arnprior was charged with:

  • Uttering threats- cause death of bodily harm
  • Sexual Assault
  • Assault, two counts
  • Forcible confinement

The accused was released and scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date.

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a report of a dispute between two parties on Wrangler Road in the Town of Renfrew.

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old from Arnprior was charged with:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Assault

The accused was released and scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date.

On December 8, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a family dispute on Daniel Street South in the Town of Arnprior.

As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old from Arnprior was charged with:

  • Assault

The accused was released and scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date.

Arrests follow stolen vehicle incident in Bancroft

The Bancroft Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals in connection with a reported stolen vehicle incident at a dealership located on Highway 118 in Haliburton.

On December 12, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers observed the stolen vehicle, a white Jeep Rubicon, travelling eastbound. The suspects attempted to evade an initiated traffic stop and later abandoned the vehicle in Bancroft.

A female suspect, Sophie McGrath, was arrested nearby. A male suspect, Francis Thibault, was arrested shortly afterward.

Francis Thibault, a 34-year-old resident of Bowman, Quebec:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device

Sophie McGrath, a 30-year-old resident of Cantley, Quebec:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
