Breaking News: Ford to call provincial election on Wednesday

According to reporting by the Canadian Press, Ontario Premier Doug Ford has announced he will call for a Provincial Election on Wednesday, January 26th, with the polling date likely to be February 27th. The premier (shown above at last year’s Canada-US Summit) is doing this despite having a large majority in the legislature. He has indicated that he seeks a mandate for his stated position to fight against tariffs imposed by the US government under President Donald Trump. Although the US President did not impose tariffs on Day One as threatened, Premier Ford stated he requires a strong mandate in order to deal with the coming four years.

Since his re-election, Trump has stated that he intends to make Canada the 51st state and has threatened to use economic pressure on us in order to achieve his objective.

Who will be the candidates in this riding for the various parties? Mr Yakabuski is retiring from his MPP role so it should be interesting locally and it would help to know something about the various party candidates.
