Co-living network recipe for senior women housing

Did you know that:

  • Seniors are the fastest growing homeless demographic in Canada
  • Rental costs in Ontario have tripled since 2019
  • There are about 43,000 senior women in Ontario who are living in inadequate, unsuitable or unaffordable housing and they can’t afford any alternative housing
  • Older women are more likely to live alone than men and 40 percent of those who live alone experience loneliness. Loneliness has been proven to put individuals at a greater risk of heart disease, stroke, hypertension, dementia, diabetes, depression, anxiety and premature death

Pretty depressing, right?

And unfortunately, it is not going to get better any time soon.  In fact, it could get a lot worse due to economic pressures from our southern neighbour.

However, as my mother used to say, “When you get served lemons, make lemonade!!

SWLT is housing lemonade for senior women!!  And now is the time to actively start making a large container full of SWLT lemonade.

SWLT Lemonade Recipe:
1.  Find one, two, three or more compatible homemates and then stir.
2.  Co-create a Homemate Agreement that covers everything and then hold frequent meetings to keep it warm.
3.  Find a suitable place to live together and ensure you have the following ingredients on hand at all times.
4.  Add equal measures of patience, discernment, tolerance and humour for desired sweetness.
