KHR man found deceased in Round Lake
An 80-year-old man from Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township is deceased after the Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) he was driving broke through the ice and sank in Round Lake.
On the afternoon of February 24, 2025, at approximately 1:15 p.m. the individual was reported to police as being overdue after going out on his UTV that morning. Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment and Renfrew County Paramedics responded and found UTV tracks leading to an opening in the ice.
The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) were engaged and at approximately 6:00 p.m. the USRU recovered the body from Round Lake.
The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death which is believed to be drowning. Foul play is not suspected.

Impaired driving investigation leads to drug charges
Three Pembroke residents are facing charges after an impaired driving investigation resulted in the seizure of suspected fentanyl and cocaine.
On February 22, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m. members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 in Whitewater Region. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Paul Martin Drive in the City of Pembroke. As part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, and further testing was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer at the detachment. Approximately 100 grams of suspected cocaine was seized along with a smaller amount of suspected fentanyl.
As a result of this investigation 47-year-old Bradley DOELL has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC), Controlled Drugs Substances Act (CDSA), and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:
- Operation while impaired – drugs
- Operation while prohibited
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
- Driving while under suspension
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.
Additionally, two passengers in the vehicle, 44-year-old Maydina GAREAU and 43-year-old Crystal GOHR are each charged with the following CDSA offence:
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
GOHR faces an additional CDSA charge of possession of a schedule I substance – fentanyl.
All three accused individuals were released, and they are scheduled appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 1, 2025.
